The kindergarten class enjoyed swimming at The Bennington Recreation Center on Wednesday, March 27th. Click here to see more photos.

Dear Families,

I’m looking forward to seeing all of the demonstrations and exhibits our K-6 students have put together for tonight’s STEM Fair. As a reminder, this event is taking place at 6:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Many thanks to our teachers and students for their efforts in making this event happen, and to all of you for supporting your students’ learning.

Our school, and the North Bennington Graded School before it, has a long history of organizing science fairs. This year we changed the name to STEM Fair to include technology, engineering, and mathematics projects in addition to science. “STEM” is a term that was coined in 2001 when the U.S. National Science Foundation noted that students were not achieving in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines compared to other countries. STEM lessons and activities not only teach our students important educational skills have been shown to help students think innovatively, encourage curiosity, inspire creativity and ingenuity, foster collaboration and communication, and build confidence. These are skill sets and mindsets that we strive to nurture in our students.

I appreciate how many of you have participated in our school’s Outreach Survey. If you  have not had a chance to complete it yet, please consider doing so. Your feedback is very important to us. The survey takes 10 minutes or less to complete and it will close after tomorrow, Friday, March 29. Here’s the link: Thank you!

See you this evening!

Class Notes:

The kindergarten class enjoyed a field trip to The Bennington Recreation Center on Wednesday, March 27th. Their teacher, Kathleen Backus, started her career teaching swimming at the Rec Center, and said that this experience sparked her love of teaching. It’s important to her to introduce her students to local community resources, such as the Rec Center and to expose them to activities like swimming. Yesterday they learned about basic water safety and then had a blast swimming with Ms. Backus and numerous parent volunteers. Teaching Assistant Jodi Breithaupt and School Counselor Pam Hubbs shared the photos posted on our website at this link:
