Dear Families,

The Village School is reinstating indoor masking starting TOMORROW, Friday, April 28th. We are making this change, because we are seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases among our students and staff. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) rates Bennington County’s COVID-19 community level as “high.” The CDC’s recommendation for counties with “high” levels of community transition is to mask indoors in public settings.

It is unfortunate that we need to make this change for the time being, yet it is important for the health and safety of our school community to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. In taking this added precaution, we are also doing our utmost to keep our school open through this surge.

We encourage students to bring their own masks from home, and we will also have disposable masks available for students who need them. Masking outside will remain optional.

I understand that students may feel unhappy, frustrated, or anxious about returning to wearing masks. Please remind them, as we will do here at school, that we hope this is only a temporary change. We will continue to monitor the cases in our school, community, and county. Once the numbers come back down, we hope to be able to return to optional indoor masking.

Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and ongoing support.

Warm regards,
Tim
