Second graders made colorful collages inspired by the art of Henri Matisse. They are on display at the Thomayer building in North Bennington.

Dear Families,

Next week will mark a significant milestone as our sixth graders graduate from the Village School! We are excited that their graduation ceremony will be a “live and in-person” event held outdoors at the Park McCullough House on Tuesday, June 8, at 6:30 p.m.

Due to social distancing requirements, attendance will be limited to immediate family members with consideration for “special and honored guests,” such as grandparents. The graduation ceremony will be filmed, and we will send out a message when it is available on the VSNB YouTube Channel for all to enjoy.

The school’s plumbing issue is being addressed presently, and we are hopeful that we will be able to reopen the school building on Tuesday, June 1st. Thank you for your support, flexibility, and understanding in this unusual circumstance.

I am sharing two time-sensitive items for your attention:

  • Lost and Found Items on Display
Starting next week, students’ lost and found items will be on display in the lobby for them to look at during the day.  At the end of the day, we will wheel the racks out to the pick-up areas.  If you see something that looks like it may belong to your student, please let a staff member know and they will bring it to your vehicle.
  • Village School Pangaea Restaurant Fundraiser
This weekend is the last chance to place orders for the Village School Pangaea Restaurant Gift Card Fundraiser. Pangaea is generously donating a portion of gift card sales to our school during the month of May; for example, if you buy a $25 gift card, Pangaea will donate $5 to the school. Please let your family and friends know there is still time to participate and support our school. You can place an order by sending an email to info@vsnb.org with the amount of the gift card(s) you would like to purchase, your telephone number, and your address, and then Pangaea will call you for your credit card information. Or, you can click on this order form. More details are on our website at https://vsnb.org/pangaea-fundraiser-2021.

As a reminder, school will be closed on Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day. Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Warm regards,

Tim Newbold

RSVP Needed for Meals During the Last Week of School:

The Abbey Group will conclude their full operation of preparing student meals on Monday, June 7. They have made arrangements for the Village School to continue offering a limited menu to our students for the remainder of our school year and Mr. Newbold has decided to purchase pizza for all of the classrooms in lieu of our end-of-the-year barbecue on Thursday, June 10. In order to plan for the week, we will need to know how many of each menu item we think we will need. Please discuss the menu with your student (click here to review the menu). On Tuesday, June 1, your students will be asked what meals they would like for the week of June 7 – 11. Please be sure your student knows what they should order or you can reach out to their teacher directly.

Free Summer Meals:

The Abbey Group announced that free breakfast and lunch will be available from June 28-July 30, 2021 for all children 18 and under. For more information, contact Food Service Director Maureen O’Neil at 802-440-8700 or Maureen@abbeygroup.net

No Drinking Fountains – Please Send Water Bottle:

Due to current pandemic regulations, we cannot allow students to use the water fountains this year. They can, however, use their classroom sinks to fill water bottles.  Please be sure to send your student to school with a reusable water bottle every day. If you are not able to provide a water bottle for your student(s), please reach out to School Nurse Kaitlyn Hewson at khewson@vsnb.org or 802-442-5955.

Yearbook Orders:

It’s not too late to order a yearbook! If you would like to purchase a yearbook(s) please contact info@vsnb.org and send in a check with your student made payable to VSNB, with “yearbook” noted in the memo. Yearbooks are $13 each.

Second Graders’ Matisse-Inspired Collages:

A new exhibit from the VSNB second grade class is on display at the Thomayer building in North Bennington. The show features artwork inspired by the work of Henri Matisse. The building is on Main Street between Powers Market and Hair n’ Now.
