“This project has so many fun and engaging parts to it that require flexibility, problem-solving skills, and self-observation,” says Vermont Arts Exchange Teaching Artist Caitilin McAdoo. First and Second Graders used papier–mâché and paint to make their heads. They measured their own limbs and learned to use the sewing machine to make their bodies. They put wire inside their arms and legs to make them posable and worked with yarn to create hair. Second graders, who are still working on their people, also drew brains and realistic hearts to put inside them.
