Band Lessons 2022-2023
Letter from Chorus Director Carla Boyle-Wight
It’s time to celebrate! We are bringing the band program back to the Village School!
*shouts YAY!!! at the top of lungs*
This year your child is able to participate in the school band program. Please read the information below and discuss this option with your child.
Ellis Music has ceased its in-person instrument demos for the time being. While our school is hoping to host representatives from the nearby communities who will demo for students the various instruments offered at VSNB, that may not be possible this year. For now, please feel free to show your child the videos on the Ellis Music website which discuss the many instrument options available. Have your child listen to each of the instruments on this list to help them decide if they would like to play that instrument. The best way to decide is to hear the instrument and think about if they like the sound it makes!

- Flute
- Clarinet
- Alto Saxophone
- Trumpet
- Trombone
- Percussion (Snare Drum & Bells)
If your child is interested in playing any one of these instruments, please fill out and return the Band Instrument Survey paper to your student’s classroom teacher by September 16th.
Instruments are available to rent through a Vermont based company; Ellis Music. It is recommended that students begin by renting instruments until they are sure that they enjoy playing it. Rental information is below.
Please return forms to your child’s classroom teacher. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.
Thank you,
Carla Boyle-Wight

Renting an Instrument
If you are renting from Ellis Music Co., please follow the steps below to begin the rental process.
- Go to www.ellismusic.com
- Click on “Rental Program”
- Click the green button labeled “Rent Online Now”
- Select “Vermont”
- Select “Village School of North Bennington”
- There is no need to select Teacher or Grade
- Select the instrument that they are interested in playing. _____________________
- Continue filling out the form.
Students also need to purchase the “Standard of Excellence” band lesson book. Students playing clarinet or alto saxophone will also need to purchase a box of reeds (I recommend the Rico brand, select 1.5 or 2 to start).
A folding music stand is helpful for practice, but it is not a necessity.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me at school through the email below!
Mission
Children are at the heart of all we do. We nurture a child's curiosity, ignite enthusiasm for exploring, develop tools for inquiry, for invention, for achievement. We welcome families into a community-wide collaboration to help our children grow into their best selves - responsible citizens and stewards of the greater world, makers of the future.
