Class Notes features a variety of new and noteworthy projects and experiences happening both inside and outside the classrooms each week at the Village School of North Bennington.
Pictured here is Julian, a first grader who enjoyed the brand new role of “Assistant Head of School” on Friday, November 5, 2021.
First grade teacher Jodie Hudson came up with this idea as part of her Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports system in her classroom. She incentivizes students with “PAWSitive Behavior” tickets that recognize when students are prepared, act kindly, work hard, and make safe choices. Julian earned 50 PAW tickets, which he traded in for the experience of helping Mr. Newbold with some of the responsibilities of being Head of School.
The Village School Pre-K Program was selected to work with Vermont’s award-winning “Start With The Arts” (SWTA) program, an experiential, on-site literacy program for home- and center-based childcare providers and the children they care for ages 0-5. Pictured above is teaching artist Carol Newell doing a painting project with Pre-K students on Friday, November 5.
SWTA’s teaching artists model and present quality children’s books and engage children in exciting performing and visual arts activities and work with Pre-K providers to deliver their own arts-based literacy lessons.
