Covid-19 Update

March 23, 2020

Dear Village School Families and Staff:

This afternoon, it has come to my attention that there is a possible COVID-19 case within our Village School of North Bennington community. We are sharing this information out of an abundance of caution, as this person is experiencing some of the related symptoms but has not been tested at this time.  I know that this news may be unsettling, and I understand that you may have questions about this possible case. However, to protect the confidentiality of this individual, this is all of the information I am able to share. If more information should become available, we will communicate out as soon as possible with the whole school community.

I have been in contact with the Department of Health. What is known as “community spread” is already happening in Vermont and all throughout the country. I expect that we will see many more cases, both suspected and possibly confirmed, over the next few weeks. Health Department Officials have asked me to convey to parents/guardians that they should monitor their child(ren) for symptoms and call their health provider should the symptoms (coughing, fever, shortness of breath) occur.

Our school community has shown resilience and solidarity in the face of various challenges in the past.  I am confident that we will face this challenge together, by showing our support and care for one another.  It is really important that we follow the guidelines laid out by the CDC and practice social distancing (staying 6 feet apart), as well as eliminate any social gatherings greater than 10 people. But remember that social distancing is meant to be physical.  It does not mean that we should isolate ourselves completely; it is important to support and connect with one another through phone calls, texts, video chats, or even on social media. Now, more than ever, we need to take care of one another and look forward to brighter times ahead.

Warm regards,

Tim Newbold
