Illustrator/author Maris Wicks at the Village School on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023.
POSTED 10/27/23
Dear Families,
This week our students had the wonderful opportunity to meet the talented and funny Maris Wicks, a graphic novelist who writes nonfiction science comic books. I’d venture to say that the students were spellbound. She inspired all of us, as she shared a sampling of her work and talked about how she became a professional illustrator/author. Thank you to The McCullough Library for partnering to make this event possible! If you want to learn more about Ms. Wicks, I encourage you to visit her website: https://www.mariswicks.com/.
I hope you are as excited as I am for Track and Treat this Sunday, October 29th! The fun run/walk, 5K, and festivities will take place rain or shine from 9-11 a.m. If you have not had a chance to register for the run/walk yet and would still like to do so, registration will be open at 8:30 a.m. Costumes are encouraged and prizes will be awarded for the most creative costumes. Kids can paint pumpkins with Vermont Arts Exchange Teaching Artists Caitilin McAdoo and Maria Scully and have their faces painted with VSNB parent Hannah True, of Oh Hello Face Painting. Many thanks to these volunteers and all of the staff, family, and community members who are also volunteering and contributing delicious baked goods for our sixth graders’ fundraiser. Special thanks to Village School Business Partners in Education for their support of special community events like these: The Bank of Bennington and D.B. McKenna & Co., Inc.
The festivities will continue on Sunday with the Vermont Arts Exchange’s “wild and weirdly fun” Halloween Parade, which will begin at 3 p.m. at the VAE (behind the North Bennington Post Office).
I look forward to seeing many of you on Sunday!
Warm regards,
Tim

Business Partners in Education
The Village School is fortunate to have generous donors that support our school’s mission and model, and we also have a Business Partners in Education (BPIE) program that helps make possible our school’s enrichment experiences, such as field trips and Specials programs, including: Art, Music, Nature, Physical Education, and STEM. BPIE partners include businesses of all sizes that represent a broad swathe of our community. We are now actively reaching out for 2023-2024 partners and encourage you to share this program with any business that might be interested. It’s a win-win for our school and businesses, with partners benefiting from strong year-round promotions, marketing, and recognition within the school and the greater community. Sponsorship levels start as low as $250 for basic benefits, and benefits increase with higher level opportunities.
