Dear Families,
This week all of our students had the opportunity to learn about fire safety thanks to the North Bennington Fire Department and volunteer firefighters Andy Myers and Ed Myers. As you can see from the photos above, students also enjoyed trying on the firefighters’ equipment!
As a reminder, next week the Village School will dismiss for the Thanksgiving holiday break on Tuesday, November 22 at 11:30 a.m. Students can order a bagged lunch with their teachers on Monday, November 21. School will reopen on Monday, November 28th. After Care will NOT be available next week due to YMCA staff training. The next After Care session will run from November 28-December 16. Click here for more information and to register your student(s).
The Bennington Food Shelf and Food Distribution Center at BROC would like families to know they have plenty of free (frozen) turkeys for Thanksgiving. Picking up a turkey will not count as a visit to the food shelf. For more information, stop by BROC at 332 Orchard Rd., Bennington, VT 05201 or call 802-447-7515.
As we look ahead to “the most wonderful time of the year,” we are excited to bring back some festive Village School events. Members of the Village School Band, Chorus, and Strings Program will perform festive holiday tunes for this year’s Winter Ensembles Concert, taking place on Tuesday, December 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. All families and friends are welcome to attend!
The Holiday Bazaar will take place on Wednesday, December 14 (the snow date will be December 15). This is a favorite school event when students enjoy holiday shopping for loved ones while raising money for charity. This year the sixth graders are organizing the Holiday Bazaar, and they are asking for your help bringing in gently used items in good condition. Items can be dropped off in the Bazaar Bin located outside the main office starting on November 28. Donations of wrapping paper, bows, ribbon, gift bags, shopping bags, gift tags/labels, and small jewelry boxes are needed too. We would love to have adult volunteers assist with wrapping presents for students. There will be one-hour volunteer shifts from 8 a.m.-12 noon. If you are interested in volunteering, please email friends@vsnb.org.
Lastly, on November 15, we performed a test of the “Remind” system, our school’s text-message notification system. If you provided the school with your cell phone number, you should have received a text message from the Village School and/or a notification via the Remind app. If you did not receive at least one of these (the text or the Remind notification), please contact info@vsnb.org with your cell phone number. Thank you!
I also encourage you to read our Winter Weather Notice, if you did not see the hardcopy notice that went home this week.
Have a good weekend!
Tim
