DECEMBER CALENDAR REMINDERS: 

• Friday, December 10th is a half-day for students, with dismissal at 11:30
  a.m., as the faculty and staff have professional development in the afternoon. 

• Picture Retake Day will be on Tuesday, December 14th. If your student will be retaking their photo, please send your student to school with their original photographs to return to the photographer. If your student missed the original photo day and will be getting photos, please send your student in with the Lifetouch order form and/or order photos online at www.mylifetouch.com using the following Picture Day ID: EVTFFMFFJ. 

CLASS NOTES: 

• The first grade is hosting a school-wide donation collection for furry friends at the Second Chance Animal Shelter. >> Click here to read about their efforts and to find out what items are needed. 

• The second graders are grateful for the many packaged food items they have received already for their food drive for local families in need. Students in all grades can participate by bringing in a food item(s) to place on the table in the school lobby. >> Click here for more information.

   

• Third graders enjoyed a Four Winds lesson on “traveling seeds” this week. The lesson opened with a puppet show done by Ms Backus and Four Winds volunteer, Judie Brower. Students learned  how seeds are dispersed into nature by the wind (milkweed), by hitchhiking onto animals and birds (Queen Ann’s lace), by moving like helicopter wings (maple leaf pods), and by water. >> Click here to read more and to see photos of the third graders examining and dissecting a wide array of seeds on the grounds of the Park McCullough House.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS: 

• Announcement from the Vermont Arts Exchange:

Our community does not get opportunities like this often! Join us this weekend when SOUL STEPS comes to town! On Saturday, December 11, at 7:30 p.m. The Bennington Performing Arts Center will be hosting a performance followed by a Q&A with the artists. The show is almost sold out. Get tickets at bpacvt.org/tickets. Tickets are $10 for students, $15 for adults and $25 if you want to Step It Up to help Soul Steps get their full musical ready for production.    There will be a FREE Intro to Step workshop with Soul Steps on Sunday, Dec. 12 from 11 am–12 noon or from 1–2 p.m. Soul Steps invites you to experience the stomps, claps, and dynamic rhythms of the rich African American cultural tradition known as step in this beginner workshop. • The Sage Street Mill is reaching out regarding its upcoming programming for kids during the school winter vacations. Their  programming focuses on each child and developing their wellness toolbox while empowering their personal interests and passions! Campers will engage with nature, art programming, and learn wellness practices through a daily gratitude circle, art and mindfulness activities, reflection time, and team building games.
