Dear Families,

As many of you know, members of the 4th-6th grades will be performing Shrek the Musical Jr. at our school on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27. Directors Mrs. Gardener and Teacher Carla are putting out a call to the community for props, costumes, and costuming materials rather than having to purchase these items. >> Click here to see a list of the items needed.

On another musical note, Teacher Carla shared students’ “musical adventures.” We have posted these music class overviews and photos  at this link: Each focus is distinctive, from Pre-K and Kindergarten students “finding their various kinds of voices like whispering, calling, and singing” to the fifth and sixth graders “working on a musical revue titled ‘Razzamajazz,’ which discusses what makes jazz, jazz.” Some classes are starting instrument lessons. For example, third graders are learning how to play recorders, and fourth graders are learning how to play ukuleles. Thanks to a generous donation, our school has a full set of classroom ukuleles.

This week a hard copy of our school’s Annual Report was sent home with students. This report and The Village of North Bennington 2023 Annual Reports are also available at this link: I encourage you to review these reports ahead of the North Bennington School District Annual Meeting, which will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 9 a.m. in the Village School gymnasium. Community members are invited to participate in this open public forum to learn about and discuss the key issues facing our school and community.

Town Meeting Day will be Tuesday, March 5, with voting taking place at the North Bennington Railroad Depot, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. The Village School’s budget will be on the ballot with a proposed tuition increase of 5% for the 2024-2025 academic year. Shaftsbury D1 residents vote for the Village School budget at the Railroad Depot, and all other voting for Shaftsbury D1 will take place at the Town Garage on North Road on March 5, from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. The needs of the budget have been considered carefully and prudently. Your support of the Village School’s budget makes it possible for us to continue providing students with a high-quality education.

Warm regards,
