This week felt much like the good old days when our school was buzzing with activities and the co-mingling of grades. The Second, Third, and Fourth grades teamed up for an inter-class science fair, with students teaching one another about chemistry, physics, and engineering through nifty STEM projects and demonstrations. The second graders hatched chicks, and the chicks made the rounds chirping throughout the classrooms to the delight of many students. >> Click here to see photos from the science fair and chick days….
Students also enjoyed a live musical performance in the school gym. It was the first in-person assembly we have had in two years! Handsome Molly, a duo composed of Kate McCann and A.J. Wright, taught students about sea chanteys while engaging them in traditional songs, accompanied by foot stomping, hand movements, and instruments such as the banjo, the concertina, and rhythm bones. It was exciting to be together for such a special event, and in our effort to continue minimizing the risk of spreading COVID and other illnesses, all students and staff were masked for the performance, and the student body was divided into two different assemblies.
With the upcoming Spring Break (April 18-22) many of us are making plans to travel and/or to spend time with friends and family. However, it is also important to remember that COVID-19 and other illnesses are on the rise again. Therefore, please remain diligent about following COVID-19 health and safety best practices. If your student or family is exposed to someone with COVID-19, please consider testing your student with an antigen test or at the COVID Resource Center (visit this website for more information: https://svhealthcare.org/COVID-Resource-Center). If you have any COVID-19 related questions or are having difficulty accessing antigen tests, please reach out to COVID Specialist Kim Krall (email@example.com) on Saturday, April 23 or Sunday, April 24.
We also ask that students with symptoms of any illness, even when testing negative for COVID-19 and/or the flu, stay home until they are no longer contagious and feel well enough to be in school. We have shared this same request with faculty and staff, and we may also ask students and staff to wear masks in the building if necessary.
We will continue to monitor case numbers, both within and outside of our school, as the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
Best wishes for a healthy, restful Spring Break and a happy Easter and Passover.
