Dear Families,

I hope your kids enjoyed the late-season snow yesterday. They were still making the most of it while playing during recess today!

This week I sent home two important letters on the following topics:

• Vermont State Cognia Assessments: This letter informed parents and caregivers of students in grades 3-6 of the testing schedule for our school. Click here to read the letter, which is posted on our website for your reference. Due to the snow-day yesterday the science assessment for fifth graders was rescheduled for today. The remainder of the assessments will take place in the weeks ahead, according to the schedule.

•Intent to Return Form: Today we distributed a form that asks for your help letting us know if your student(s) will be returning to the Village School for the 2024-2025 school year. This information greatly assists us in planning ahead for a successful upcoming school year. I would appreciate your response by April 12. If you prefer to respond online, it takes only a few minutes to do and here’s the link:

Many thanks this week to Hugh Crowl, a Village School parent and a Bennington College professor of astronomy and physics, for generously sharing his time and knowledge with our students on Eclipse Education Day. I’m certain that he not only taught our students about eclipses but also passed on his sense of awe for our wondrous solar system. The Bennington Banner published an article about Professor Crowl’s lessons with our students. Click here to read “Learning About the Totally Awesome Eclipse” on The Bennington Banner website. The eclipse glasses that Professor Crowl gave to our school for all students are being distributed by classroom teachers between today and Monday. Thanks to Ms. Gibbons, we have some photos of Professor Crowl’s lessons with students posted on our website at this link.

As a reminder, on Monday, April 8 (Eclipse Day) the Village School will have a half day, with dismissal for students at 11:30 a.m.  I hope you and your child(ren) will be able to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime event together. Resources for the total solar eclipse are posted on our website at this link:

Have a good weekend!

Campers will have the option to enroll in a swim lesson and have lunch and snacks provided most weeks.
