Dear Families:

The last Fantastic Friday of the school year will be on Friday, May 24, at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium. Grades K-6 will be participating, and all families and friends are invited to attend the assembly.

This week marks the half-way point of our school’s month-long Chess Residency. It was terrific to hear from instructor Trevor Plizga yesterday that the fifth and sixth graders were enjoying playing chess so much they wanted to skip their lessons and get right into matches. As Mr. Plizga explained to them: there is always more to learn and improve. Luckily for our eager students, there will be a great opportunity for playing against classmates in a Quad Tournament on Saturday, June 1, from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Village School gymnasium. Students in grades 1-6 at our school and other area schools are invited to participate. The quad format works well for shorter tournaments and also pairs together players of similar strength. The four players will all play each other once, and each quad will have a winner! There is no cost to participate but registration is strongly recommended and students must be accompanied by an adult. If your student(s) would like to participate, please email Mr. Plizga at with your student’s name and grade. Click here to see the flier.

Please expect to receive a hardcopy invitation and reply form being sent home with your students today or tomorrow with information about the End-of-Year BBQ on Wednesday, June 5. Families are invited to eat with their students at their regularly scheduled lunch times. Students eat for free, and the cost for each guest is $5. Families/guests must RSVP by Tuesday, May 28.

As a reminder, school will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.

Warm regards,

May 28: Girls on the Run is having a car wash fundraiser at the Village School from 3:30-4:15 p.m. The participants and coaches wrote: “It is donation based so everyone can afford to get their car washed. Some of the reasons that we chose a car wash is because some people can’t get their car washed and so we are making it so that they can and all of the money that we raise goes to our school (VSNB). If your car needs to be washed or you would like to donate, then please come to the Church Street side of the school. We hope that your day brings you lots of joy and fun.”
