Village School Pre-K students learning through explorations at Hiland Hall Gardens with Teacher Keegan Delurey.

Dear Families,
This week’s beautiful weather was ideal for students to walk over to the Hiland Hall Gardens (HHG). We are fortunate to have Garden Teacher Keegan Delurey who comes to the program with a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm about the natural world. If you haven’t already heard your child(ren) talking about their garden experience, then I am sure you will in the weeks ahead. It’s often a highlight for students as they dig into planting and harvesting and then enjoy the fruits of their labor by making healthy garden snacks. Our partnership with HHG makes all the difference in giving our students this hands-on opportunity to learn about science and nutrition while also gaining appreciation for the environment.
While some learning experiences take our students out into the world, other times we have the world coming into our classroom through guest presenters. This week Village School parent John Lamson, who teaches a Pre-Law class at Southwest Tech, visited the Fourth Grade class with his Pre-Law students. He commented that his students had “a wonderful time with the fourth graders sharing our knowledge about the Constitution and how it was created at the Constitutional Convention of 1787. We were so impressed by the warm welcome that all of the students gave us as well as their enthusiasm in thinking about and discussing what our fundamental rights are (and should be) in the United States.” I encourage you to take a look at the Fourth Grade bulletin board celebrating Constitution Day, and you can also see some photos on the Class Notes page of our website.
Next week I will be away from the school assisting the Fifth Grade Class at Keewaydin Environmental Education Center. During my absence, Rachel Maher, the Assistant Head of School, and Pam Hubbs, the School Counselor, will be available as primary contacts for families. Please reach out to them if you have any questions or concerns.
Enjoy your weekend,
Tim
