First graders engaged in fun and games for their energy break.

Dear Families,

Congratulations to our students in grades 3-6 for completing their SBACs (Smarter Balanced Assessments). We are proud of them for their hard work and accomplishment! As I shared with families prior to students taking these assessments, the Village School does not “teach to the test.” While our school is required to participate in the SBACs, we are not tethered to the outcomes and see the SBAC results as providing one snapshot of student progress within the context of other observations and data gathered by our teachers. In this way, the results can be useful in helping us to understand an individual student’s development more fully and also in aiding our school in assessing our curriculum.

Turning from our school to a bit of community news, I’d like to share two events happening this weekend:

Lastly, for your reference, there is an important note below regarding ordering meals for the week of June 7-11. Also, the 2021-2022 Calendar At-a-Glance is now available and posted on our school website.

Warm regards,
Tim Newbold

RSVP Needed for Meals During the Last Week of School

The Abbey Group will conclude their full operation of preparing student meals on Monday, June 7. They have made arrangements for the Village School to continue offering a limited menu to our students for the remainder of our school year and Mr. Newbold has decided to purchase pizza for all of the classrooms in lieu of our end-of-the-year barbecue on Thursday, June 10. In order to plan for the week, we will need to know how many of each menu item we think we will need. Please discuss the menu with your student (click here to review the menu). On Tuesday, June 1, your students will be asked what meals they would like for the week of June 7 – 11. Please be sure your student knows what they should order or you can reach out to their teacher directly.

Free Summer Meals

The Abbey Group announced that free breakfast and lunch will be available from June 28-July 30, 2021 for all children 18 and under. For more information, contact Food Service Director Maureen O’Neil at 802-440-8700 or Maureen@abbeygroup.net

No Drinking Fountains; Please Send Water Bottle

Due to current pandemic regulations, we cannot allow students to use the water fountains this year. They can, however, use their classroom sinks to fill water bottles.  Please be sure to send your student to school with a reusable water bottle every day. If you are not able to provide a water bottle for your student(s), please reach out to School Nurse Kaitlyn Hewson at khewson@vsnb.org or 802-442-5955.

Yearbook Orders

It’s not too late to order a yearbook! If you would like to purchase a yearbook(s) please contact info@vsnb.org and send in a check with your student made payable to VSNB, with “yearbook” noted in the memo. Yearbooks are $13 each.

Pangaea Gift Card Fundraiser

VSNB parents Nick Disorda and Lani DePonte, owners of Pangaea Restaurant, have put together a great opportunity in appreciation and support of our school. They are generously donating a portion of Pangaea gift card sales to VSNB during the month of May. There are options to dine at Pangaea or order takeout. A flyer and order form will be sent home with students on Monday. You can also click here for more information and to download an order form from online.
