The Village School of North Bennington (VSNB) will be open on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2019. The key reason we decided to keep school in session is that we feel it is our responsibility to teach students about American history, civics, patriotism, and the tremendous bravery and sacrifice of our country’s Veterans. Two of the main ways we will do this are as follows:
Students in Grades 2-6 will be participating with their classes in the Veterans Day Parade in Bennington. Roundtrip bus transportation has been arranged for our students; family members and friends are welcome to meet us at the parade and walk with our school in support and celebration of those who have served our country. The parade will begin at 11:11 a.m. at the old middle school on Main Street and continue to the Vermont Veterans’ Home. Students are asked to pack bagged lunches and/or order bagged lunches from the cafeteria. Please remind your students to dress for the weather, as they will be outside for an extended time.
In the afternoon, there will be a VSNB all-school Veterans Day assembly at 2 p.m. in the school gym. Family members, friends, and neighbors who have served in any branch of the United States Armed Forces are invited to join us for the assembly. It would be an honor to recognize them at our school on this important day and to celebrate their service with tributes and songs.
