December 18, 2020
Dear Families,
It was a joyful day here at the Village School as we celebrated the final school day of 2020. Students were excited to be with their classmates learning together and enjoying the best of the season. As you may hear, they even participated in a virtual Winter Concert orchestrated by Mrs. Koelker and recorded by VSNB parent/resident photographer Michael Beach! Families will be invited to watch the concert on our school’s YouTube channel as soon as it is available early next week.
If students in your household would like to get the free breakfasts and lunches next week, they will be available via delivery route in North Bennington at Lion’s Field (10:47 a.m.) and the Old Stone Church (11:09 a.m.) on Monday (12/21) and Tuesday (12/22). They will also be available for pick up at the Middle School from 7:30 a.m. – 12 noon. On Wednesday (12/23) students will be able to pick up 7 days of meals from these locations. Complete meal delivery information is available on the SVSU Website by clicking here.
Please be aware that students will be bringing home their Chromebooks and chargers for the holiday break. As a reminder, we are not able to monitor students’ usage outside of school hours. At this point, we are still planning to reopen school on January 4 for in-person learning after the winter break. I will be monitoring the news and announcements coming out of the Vermont Department of Health and the Vermont Agency of Education over the next two weeks. If conditions are unsafe for reopening the school building, then I will notify you about a transition to distance learning.
As we heard last week, Governor Scott extended the COVID-19 State of Emergency until January 15, 2021. This means that all previous restrictions are still in place, including a suspension of social gatherings and all non-essential cross-state travel and visits. To quote the Governor: “We must remain vigilant, especially as we continue to see around 100 new cases a day here in Vermont…[The] fact is we need each and every one of you to make sure we get through this on the best possible footing, with as little loss of life as possible, with our healthcare system intact, and with our kids having gotten as much in person education as possible. Together, we can keep each other safe as we work our way towards the end of the tunnel.”
I hope that this is the last time I ever have to write: “It’s been a year like no other” and that we will see much brighter days ahead in 2021. Wishing you all the joy, warmth, and peace of the holiday season.
Warm regards,
Tim Newbold
