The Village School believes in a well-rounded education that nurtures the whole child and benefits our students for life. Thanks to your gift, these programs and opportunities serve as a source of inspiration and enrichment across a wide spectrum of arts, music, nature, and much more.
Art
Art and creativity play an integral role in our students’ education. Thanks to a strong partnership with the Vermont Arts Exchange all students have the opportunity to do art for art’s sake, experimenting with a variety of mediums and materials. Teaching artists collaborate with classroom teachers to find creative connections to the curriculum whenever possible. An emphasis on community-designed projects, public art, and problem-solving through imagination and artistic expression are also key components of our art program.
Field Trips
Field trips are a meaningful part of a Village School student experience. From place-based treasures close to home such as the Robert Frost House, Park McCullough, Hildene, the Bennington Battlefield, Merck Forest, and the Clark Art Institute to remarkable resources further afield (e.g. the Vermont State Capitol, the Boston Science Museum, and the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island) our students have opportunities that bring their learning to life, deepen their understanding, and expand their horizons.
Music
The Village School actively promotes and embraces music as a fundamental educational and cultural activity for our students. Weekly music classes and activities immerse our children in all the joy and enlightenment that music brings. In addition to learning to use their voice as an instrument, they are also taught how to read music, and have exposure to a wide variety of instruments and musical genres. Students additionally have the opportunity to participate in chorus, band, or the Strings Program, all of which culminate in performances.
